How to build a PC for under $1,000

If you have $1000 in your pocket burning a hole then you can build a pretty sick battle station. In this budget, you can build a complete PC with some of the latest components available in the market. Building a $1000 PC is actually quite simple and to make things easier, after extensive research, we’ve gathered a list of all the components that you’ll need in your $1000 monster PC that will easily run the latest games with decent fps on 4K resolution. Without any further ado, let’s get right into it.

PC Build Under $1000: Components

Processor - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X - ($220)

  • Maximum Boost Clock - 4.2Ghz
  • Number of Cores: 6
  • Number of Threads: 12
  • Socket - AM4
AMD Ryzen 5 3600x with 6c/12t is one of the best processors in the market and it offers great value for money. This chip is really giving a tough time to its competitors over at Intel and it’s one of the best performers from AMD. These new-gen Ryzen chips are made for intense gaming but they’re also pretty good when it comes to multi-core performance.

You can get your hands on this CPU for about $220 and its main competitor, Intel Core i5 6600K that goes for around $200 falls really short when it comes to performance. Hands down, Ryzen 5 3600 offers the best value for money, and for 4K gaming, I’d definitely recommend this one.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600X offers a maximum boost of 4.2Ghz which means that you could easily overclock to get the maximum performance. Although you’ll get a stock cooler with this one, I’d recommend buying a couple more fans if you’re planning to overclock your PC.

Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix B450-F ($130)

How to build a PC for under $1,000
  • Socket - AM4
  • Size - ATX
  • RAM Slots - 4 x DIMM; Max. 64GB DDR4-3200 MHz
  • USB 3.1 Compatibility

In this build, we’ll be going forward with Asus ROG Strix B450-F which is ideal for this build because it is futureproofed. This mobo can support up to 64 gigs of DDR4 RAM along with support for NVMe, M.2, and USB 3.1. Asus ROG Strix B450-F features an ATX size factor that can easily fit in any mid-ATX and full tower cases. Mounting this one is also quite easy and you won’t have to drill any additional holes in your case.

The price is pretty reasonable as well and it can also support the 2nd and 3rd generations of Ryzen processors which means that all the Ryzen chips are compatible with this mobo. There are some RGB lights and an I/O shield pre-installed that adds to the beauty of this motherboard. For what it's worth, Asus ROG Strix B450-F is the best choice when building a $1000 machine.

The only downside of this motherboard is that you won’t be getting a Wifi technology with this one. Other than that, it’s an ideal motherboard. Similar motherboards in the same price range do not offer support for NVMe but this one is definitely an exception.

Graphics Card - MSI GeForce RTX 2060 6GB ($330)

How to build a PC for under $1,000
  • VRAM - 6GB
  • Memory Interface - 192-bit
  • Temps - 65-75c
There’s no other graphics card as good as RTX 2060 when it comes to 4K gaming with a mid-budget PC. Even the AMD’s RX 5600XT is not as good as Nvidia’s RTX 2060 performance. This GPU features 6GB GDDR6 memory, a 192-bit memory interface, and a 1710 MHz boost clock. RTX 2060 is without any doubt, one of the best graphics cards available in the market that you can get your hands on.

The RTX series GPUs have really shown some exceptional performance since their debut and really given their competitors a run for their money. RTX 2060 is mainly focused on providing the users with the best video graphics but if you’re into designing and 3D rendering then this one will not disappoint you. RTX 2060 comes with a price tag of $330 but if you’re not planning to game much on it then you can always go from RX 580 or RX 570.

RAM - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2x8) ($84)

How to build a PC for under $1,000
  • RAM Type - DDR4
  • Memory Clock Speed - 3200Mhz
  • RAM Sticks - 2x8GB
If you’re into RGB lights then Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB will serve you well. It features 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM that will be enough to open a few dozens Google chrome tabs. When it comes to gaming and 3d rendering, 16GB RAM is definitely an overkill for the time being but in the near future,16 gigs will be the minimum requirements for the modern games and programs.

When backed with Ryzen and 2060, this 16GB RAM will be enough to run any games on 4K resolution with pretty decent fps. The glowing RGB lights on this thing is definitely the main selling point apart from their exceptional performance.

This 3.5’’ drive will be a good fit for your $1000 PC build. Seagate is quite famous for making the best hard drives in the town and this one is surely one of the best.

The most common problem that you have to face with hard drives is their annoying grinding sound but BarraCuda is designed to be quiet. At this reasonable price, you’ll get a 2TB storage and it is definitely more than enough. But.only a simple hard drive won’t be enough for a PC of this caliber and that’s you should also get an SSD.

Solid State Drive (SSD) - Kingston 480GB ($55)

How to build a PC for under $1,000
  • Storage - 500Gb
  • R/W speed - Up to 500 MB/s
  • Warranty - N/A

There have been many SSDs in the market but not one of them was able to compete against Kingston 480GB SSD. This is one of the best SSD ever manufactured. Kingston 480GB is a very fast drive that will make the loading times disappear. Similarly, if you want a quick boot-up then this drive will surely come in handy.

This 500Gb SSD will definitely boost the performance of your PC but you’ll also pay a handsome price for just 500Gb storage. But, this SSD is worth every penny and a $1000 PC build won’t be the same without an SSD.

Power Supply - EVGA 80+ Bronze 600W ($75)

How to build a PC for under $1,000

  • PSU - 600W 80+ Bronze
  • Quiet Power Supply
  • 120mm Fan Size
With this build, you’ll at least need a 500w but you should go ahead with a 600w modular PSU from EVGA. This 80+ Bronze power supply will be good enough to handle all the power consumption of your PC. And if you want to add some extra RGB lights to your PC or add some external devices down the line then this one will surely come in handy.

Keep this in mind that a PSU from a low-quality Chinese brand could ruin your whole rig and that’s why we always recommend buying a branded PSU from well-known brands. Modular PSUs are designed for gaming and they're a bit different from standard PSUs.

It features a minimalist matte-black design that looks really clean and there’s also an RGB strip at the front at well to give a professional touch to the rig.

This ATX-sized PC case will easily fit the motherboard and all the components and if you want to add some 3mm fans then there’s also some room for them. If you’re a cable modder then you’ll definitely enjoy the cable management with this one.

Conclusion
